Probiotics - does taking probiotics help Crohn's colitis?

Posted by cornsilk5 @cornsilk5, Sep 27, 2021

32 years ago I was a patient at Mayo and had surgery to remove the large intestine, rectum, and was made an ileostomy. For 30 years, I never had any problem. Then a few years ago, I became anemic (7 hemoglobin) and then became very ill - was diagnosed with Crohn's colitis. I am now on infusion with Entyvio every 8 weeks. Is it true that I will be on Entyvio for the rest of my life. Also will taking Probiotics help my condition?

Cornsilk, may I ask why you had colon surgery 32 years ago?

I have Crohn's disease.

I would talk about eating something like probiotics with the doctor, before doing so.

I had the large intestine and rectum removed 32 years ago at Mayo. Therefore, I have to use a pouch and wafer. I never had any problems and worked for many years until I was 72 years. Recently, when my husband passed, I started having problems. I think I was exhausted from taking care of him. Anyway I am now on Entyvio infusions every 8 weeks and would like to keep improving on the situation. I thought maybe taking probiotics would help balance the white/red blood cells. My colitis is when there are too many white blood cells.
