Post-surgery doctor visit: What questions to ask?

Posted by anosmic1 @anosmic1, Nov 20 11:53am

I appreciate the support I've found here. I was diagnosed this summer and had surgery last week. It appears everything went as planned, and my follow-up appointment is Friday. I'd welcome any thoughts on any questions I should ask or anything I should expect from the appointment. The catheter has not been painful but I'll be happy to be rid of it. Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

I had mine on September 16th.
Along with the questions that Peter gave you, I would also ask:

Ask about the pathology report
Ask about further intervention and testing, frequency. Is radiation/ADT on the horizon?
Ask about ED help

I had mine 7 weeks ago.
I wrote down questions on my phone while waiting for that appointment.

My list:
Were nerve bundles or lymph nodes removed?
Had the cancer spread beyond the prostate?
How often will I need follow-up PSA tests & is that the main test for cancer going forward?
At what PSA level do you consider follow-up treatment? 0.2? 0.5?
Are there any dietary restrictions to reduce bladder irritation?

Your surgeon will be happy to answer any & all questions.

My thoughts and prayers that everything is clean and your functions return to normal! Mine is January 28th so I have no particular advice to give you and just wanted to send my best to you!
