Post surgery care questions

Posted by gram46 @gram46, Jun 18, 2023

I am 12 days post my lobectomy surgery and have some questions.

the glue on my incision still shows no signs of falling off, normal ?

when can I start using scar- away strips ?

were any of you given neck stretches to do ?

thanks

Yes the glue is normal. I didn't use Mederma creme till a month after surgery. Yes I was told by my OT, I'm seeing for Lymphedema from my breast surgery, she gave me neck exercises to do & to lightly rub the area. My endocrinologist nor my surgeon told me that! My OT has been my saving Grace thru all my surgeries! I suggest you get a referral to see an Occupational therapist for it.

thanks for your suggestion about seeing OT. I wish more surgeons paid attention to the post- op concerns and care. I was given very little information when I left the hospital.

Sites like this one have been a great my source of information and comfort for me.

thanks to you all

I wore the silicone scar away cover for 6 months…due to mixed massages about how long I was supposed to wear it. My scar is flat and not noticeable, so I tend to think it helped!
The Scar Away was mentioned by the dr/nurse but not really emphasized as a direction….I was having other issues with the lack of communication after having surgery where I was diagnosed with Hurthle Cell Carcinoma after hearing for years my nodule did not seem to be cancer; so if I received a directive to use them I don’t recall it. I seem to think I read somewhere that you don’t use them until the scar has closed so waiting a few weeks sounds about right. Good luck!
