Post Radiation ABS Lymph and Mono Numbers

Posted by cheriekhan @cheriekhan, Dec 2 4:37pm

My husband is two weeks out of his radiation treatment had his first blood test after his Brachytherapy and IG-IMRT 25 sessions. The PSA is .05 which is a good thing I am assuming. But his Monocytes count was 13.2 which is borderline high and ABS lymph levels were .66 which is low. Are these both effects of the radiation he received? And if so is it temporary. His only symptom is fatigue. Willa supplement like B12 help? Or diet? Will also contact the nurse but was wondering. Thank you for any input.

I just looked at my own history. My monocytes were suppressed (low end of normal) for about 6 months after my SBRT radiation, but then rose back up to mid range again.

There was a discussion about lymphocytes after radiation here.

Lymphocytes are very sensitive to radiation especially if your husband had whole pelvic radiotherapy (I did). Mine had since "recovered" to .710 (up from .490) but it is likely to take 2+ years to get back to normal (depending on the radiation field).
No one mentions this side effect.

I take precautions against infection (avoiding crowded rooms or masking) and was just vaccinated against covid and flu.
