Post-cystectomy bladder infections

My husband (81) had radical cystectomy one year ago. Just discovered (by accident) that he has UTI and is being treated with cipro. Had no symptoms. Visit to doc for unrelated issue.
How common are UTI's post cystectomy?
Tips for prevention?
