Please help: Mobility issues & answering the door for packages
Hi everyone. I have mobility issues. It takes me time to get out of a chair and get to the door when it rings. I occasionally get packages that require a signature. USPS has made it simple to electronically sign ahead of time. Fed Ex has a similar system, but it needs revamping, but I see it as an effort anyway.
UPS on the other hand, has no such system. I have repeatedly called when I know I have a signature requirement scheduled. I am always given the company policy of waiting at the door no longer than 2 minutes. 2 minutes! I have tried taping a nice message on the door asking them to wait a little longer, they never do. Once, I got to the door and the driver was walking away (through my grass, not on the walkway). I yelled loudly. I live in a quiet area. He didn’t even turn around.
I became so frustrated and fixated yesterday that I emailed 6 executives at UPS. I am happy tO provide the addresses to anyone else who thinks a systems change is in order.A high level corporate customer service representative called me back and spouted the same corporate policy.
I realized these drivers are pinched for time and carry a heavy load. But there is already a place on the website to enter delivery details such as gate codes, etc. it seems like an easy fix to add a line to enter additional information. Or to have an automated system that sends a text when they are close. There are probably many easy fixes that I can’t think of in today’s high tech world.
I edid some research and I think they are breaking both the ADA law of 1990 and section 504 of the rehabilitation act of 1973. My post has gotten long so I won’t get into it. But if anyone asks I have the information to back it up.
I submitted a complaint to the ADA division of the DOJ. It would carry more weight if others submitted a complaint as well. It anyone with mobility issues has had, or fear they will have, trouble getting to the door in time to sign for UPS packages, below is the website to file a complaint. Also anyone who wants to actively support the disabled community. Also caregivers who can’t always get to to door right ar a moments notice. It took me about 10-15 minutes to complete.
Thank you for your time, please help support a change to the UPS policy.
