Plant-based diet for BCR prevention (revisited) ; )

I know that this was discussed many times but I am posting this purely for informative purpose since my conscious would not allow me not to.

We had the first post op meeting with our urologist who is very involved in all kinds of research and is following hundreds and hundreds of cases that he encountered in his very long and successful career. He is top gun at major center of excellence and well known in the world of PC. Since we are concerned about BCR and already talked to MO and OR we spent the most of the time talking about adjuvant vs. salvage, radiation pros and cons , ADT, AR new studies for adjuvant after RP etc etc. After extensive discussion he said this: “ The BEST thing you can do for BCR prevention, and I did research in this area, is to stick with plant based diet. I wold strongly suggest that” !
So, take it as you will and please “don’t kill the messenger” lol.

I am aware that nothing can prevent BCR 100%, but even a delay is a BIG prognostic thing. Even if it does not help us it might help others, so I wanted to share.

I am a believer. I think studies will continue to come out showing the benefits. I’m mostly vegan and try to click off the 24 items of Dr. Gregor‘s daily dozen each day. He’s a nonprofit doctor that runs nutritionalfacts.org. My treat is seafood when I go out to dinner, but very rarely any meat, dairy, or sugar. I also think exercise can make a big difference, and studies are coming out showing this as well. Thanks for posting.

Generally speaking a plant based diet helps prevent cancer and heart disease. Yes to exercise and avoid dairy, sugar and keep your BMI under 25.

BUT, everyone's journey is their own. There is no one perfect answer.

There are a number of foods that have been shown to reduce the risk and progression of prostate cancer. (I do not plan to give up animal protein). Mushrooms, cooked tomatoes, cooked broccoli, pomegranates, and a variety of cruciferous vegetables all have a positive effect on the prevention and reduction of proliferation of prostate cancer. Fortunately I enjoy many of the foods on the helpful list.

Pcri.org seems to rely quite a bit on the expertise of Verne Varona for plant-based recommendations. This is a recent video: https://youtu.be/7Rqo0qmyKfo
