Physio gave harder exercises too soon, now pain and inflammation TKR

At 6 weeks physio gave me harder exercises too soon. I am 70 and he said I was doing so well that he gave me stairs to do normally and mini squats with 3kg in both hands. I did these once! Since then have had loads of pain in knee, especially on inside. Now it is inflamed and going upstairs is so painful. Walking is more painful. Knee is clicking with every step. Consultant said too much too soon. But you initially go with what physio suggests. Feeling this has set me back. Now been told to rest and only do what I can without hurting knee. But I’m cross physio pushed me too far. Has this happened to others? Any advice please?

I did not but I doubt it will cause any permanent setback. Recovery from a THR is not a straight line. There are good days and bad days.

In addition to using tylenol/ibuprofen to help with the pain, it might be good to begin icing it 20 minutes at a time, several times a day to help quiet things down. Have you tried that?

Thank you both for your comments. I have seen Consultant and he said I've now developed plica syndrome. So the plica is very inflamed and I must rest, ice, and only do gentle exercises. But he wasn't happy that I'd been given squats with weights to do before I was 6 weeks post op!! I actually didn't do them at home after I had tried at the physio's. Good job or I might have done more damage.
