It's completely understandable to feel anxious about terms like "hypermetabolic." While we can share our personal experiences, it's important to remember that everyone's situation is unique. I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your oncologist, who can provide detailed information tailored to you.
Considering a second opinion can also be beneficial, and it's something I highly recommend. When I was first diagnosed in 2018, and again when my lung cancer metastasized to my brain in 2020, I sought second opinions both times, including a visit to MD Anderson in Houston, TX. In my experience, oncologists are supportive of patients seeking additional perspectives—they often encourage it.
Stay hopeful, and know that you're not alone on this journey.
This is not for myself but husband and I thank you for your response. I was wondering if it’s something to worry about.
Welcome to Mayo Connect @stovepipe07. These results can be hard to interpret. Your husband's doctor has the benefit of knowing his health history. Having reports prior to appointments can be helpful in some cases, but it can lead to misinterpretation too.
I'd like to hear more. When is your husband's appointment with his oncologist? Is this a bone lesion that is metastatic from lung cancer? What treatments has he had?
His next visit to the oncology is Nov 14th. No I believe a lymph node in cervical area. He was diagnosed with 3B lung cancer in 2017 and done chemo and radiation in 2017. Everything has been stable til 2020 and they found a small spot on right lung and he done 5 rounds of radiation then. Sinse 2020 that spot on right lung had doubled in size in 2023 pet report.
@stovepipe07, I'm sorry that you and your husband are facing this repetitive nature of recurrence. Unfortunately, that can be common. I'm hoping that you'll get more answers next week, please let us know how the appointment goes.
Hi @stovepipe07, how did the followup appointment go? Thinking of you and your husband.
He had to cancel unfortunately because he was sick due to a cold. So it this coming week I believe on the 22nd. Thank you for thinking of us!!
