Peripheral Neuropathy Twitching?

Posted by wyp4251987 @wyp4251987, Mar 27, 2023

Hello, I was recently diagnosed with PN. I am experiencing twitching that started in my thigh and has expanded to include upper and lower body including my face. I have had an EMG/NC and was told it is not ALS but the twitching continues to cause anxiety. Anyone else experience similar challenge? I am a 61 yr old male.

Do you know what type of PN you have? Is it length-dependent or non-length dependent? That makes a difference in where your twitching and other issues are located. See if that information is on your reports.

I have axonal, long fiber neuropathy, and I have twitching symptoms in my legs that sometimes reverberate throughout my body. This did not happen before the fairly rapid onset of my polyneuropathy.
I associate it with fatigue, later in the day, or at night. There is no pain, and it goes away quickly.

@efgh1020 - similar diagnosis for me and about 2 years ago, I noticed this weird twitching between knees and ankles...what the heck was that in my shins area? Leg would jump. Almost felt like an electric shock. Well, time to read up on that symptom which I did, mine has remained in same area below knees and also occurred later the day towards early evening. Yes, no pain but annoying.

Okay, so that is your starting point for doing a Google search to learn more of what to expect. I have length-dependent SFN but my twitching is not in my face. And it comes and goes. The great thing about this forum is you can see how many other people have that twitching, without it being ALS. That’s reassuring for you!

If it could be it to music, it might make a dance—but not the “Electric Slide.”

I have idiopathic SFN and I also have muscle twitching in my legs between ankles and knees. It happens mostly in the morning. Just small muscle twitches all over my legs. It’s annoying.

I continue to experience twitching in various parts of my body that seem to be fairly consistent especially when at rest. Has anyone else experienced similar issue? I did have an EMG/NC on Feb 20th and was told I do not have ALS but do have PN moderate severity axonal, length dependent.
The twitching causes constant anxiety that is difficult to shake. Anyone else experiencing similar challenges?
