Perforated Diverticulitis with no surgery
Hi all.
I was diagnosed with diverticulitis 2 months ago , . I was diagnosed with a small mild abscess and small perforated colon, and was in the hospital for 2 days with IV antibiotics and came home on oral antibiotics for a total of 16 days. I was doing ok after that and had no pain, then a week ago I had mild pain again and went and another CT. It was the same showing that diverticulitis . I want to know how many times this can flare up and how much pain is normal before they do surgery on you ? Anyone else had a perforated diverticulitis with no surgery and they have any experience? Any symptoms? How long does this take to heal?

@lilly2023 I recently had diverticulitis with perforation and abscess. An interventional radiologist put a drain in my while I was in a CT scan machine I still have abdominal pain and lower back pain. How long does it take to get over an episode? I feel like something is going on inside.
Hi,
I'm sorry to write that I don't have answers for you. Haven't experienced a perforation. Just here to say I hope you're on the mend and getting answers.
Yes slight perforation that repaired itself. Hospital for 3 nights. Home w meds 10 days 5, 6 months later pain went to ER got meds 10 days no scan due to previous history ER doc prescribed the meds. Now 6 years later 3rd flare. Saw PCP. Based on past history prescribed meds, no scan. 5 days later, low fiber diet after couple days just fluids much better. 6 good years so thought I was out of woods! I now want to see gastro to be certain on how to avoid, etc.
Hi 12 months ago I had a perforation up until then I had no idea I had diverticulitis. Hospital for 5 days on iv drip then home 3 months later 2nd flare up but no perforation again Hospital stay and antibiotics. That was 9 months ago since then I've upped my fibre increased my water intake massively. I've had a couple of twinges but nothing major I'm still discovering what I can and can't eat. My gastroenterologist can't seem to give me any specific answers. I did say should I go for surgery he thinks not at this point and may never need it apparently more often than not the very first attack is usually to most complicated. I hope so!
