My husband passed out in early Dec. due to blood loss. Tests were run (EGD & Colonoscopy) to find the source. 2nd EGD located a duodenal mass. My husband had a resection of proximal duodenum and distal stomach ( tumor site - proximal duodenum at junction with antrum). G2 , well differentiated NET 3.5 cm. Histologic 3-20%. Tumor was present in 1 of 9 nodes. Also had his gallbladder taken out - in the way and lots of scar tissue to robotic prostatectomy 10 months earlier. Also was DX with type 2 diabetes when NET found. No issues with surgery. Followed orders and diets- more worried about hernia due to 2 surgeries. Now surveillance for NET, labs in June and CT. So far so good on both cancers.

He’s back to riding his bicycle 20 miles per day 4 times a week - 67 yrs old. No digestive issues even with gallbladder removal ( except bacon).

@isaiah5417nt, have you been scheduled for your surgery? Will it be done laparoscopically?

@suzystation and welcome to the NETs discussion on Mayo Clinic Connect. It sounds like your husband had good treatment for his NETs. That is always good news!

I have had three surgeries for small NETs in the duodenal bulb so I understand just a little about his experience.

What type of surveillance/follow-up will he be having now?

My understanding is they will be doing- standard CBC and Comprehensive Metabolic Panel along with Serotonin Serum, Pancreastatin , and 5HIAA Plasma/ neuroendocrine. I believe the CT is just with contrast. If any of these come back irregular then they will do the CU64 Dotatate scan. One of his oncologist specialty’s are NETS. Very pleased with the handling of his NET. If needed, we can also go to MD Anderson for any second opinions since my husband is a patient there as well- be referred to their NET clinic. Feeling very thankful - no signs of prostate cancer one year out and hoping for all clear in June ( for 6 month post surgery for NET).
