Papilloma recurring: High risk for breast cancer

Posted by tin12690 @tin12690, Mar 13 3:35pm

Hi Im 35yrs old. Im at high risk of getting cancer due to the myraid testing at a 48% chance of getting cancer. my mom had cancer @ 43 and grandma in her early 80's.

I had a mri,mammo/us a little over a year ago and a 6mm papilloma was found. I had it biopsy and did a lumpectomy to remove it. and they are just monitoring me now for a few years.

Its now time for my yearly mri I had one done a week ago and another 5mm mass was found. they missed it or didn't see it when I had my mammo /us done in November. I go for my 2nd look ultrasound on in 5 days and depending on that they will biopsy it and go from there.

Has anyone had a papilloma comeback in the same breast and same spot after being removed before?

I noticed there has been no response here, I am sorry that there isn’t other members that can give an account of this. I did a quick search about papillomas and found that there is a percentage of these that return, sometimes more than once.
I did have to read a fair amount of studies to get a feel for what they know. The general consensus was that they should be removed not just needle biopsies in order to rule out malignancy. Continuing to monitor becomes more important with each recurrence. Multiple papillomas can slightly elevate the risk of breast cancer over your lifetime.
Is this in the same spot as your last papilloma?

yes its the same spot as the last one. IM going in Monday for my 2nd look ultrasound. It was just weird that they didn't catch it when I did my last mammo and us back in November and now this is there. they said its a scattered fibro glandular tissue. there is mild background breast parenchymal enhancement. then 5mm enhancing mass within the retro areolar position 2cm deep to the right nipple.

@tin12690, any update after your appointment to review the ultrasound? How are you doing?

They couldn't see it in ultrasound, so I go in Friday for a mri biopsy since it was deep in the tissue.

I don’t have anything to share. I just want to wish you a good result. 🤗
