Do I have Pancreatitis?

Posted by harper7745 @harper7745, Jul 27, 2019

Have had CT abdomen, it showed possible mild pancreatitis. MRI showed possible mild pancreatitis, EUS showed chronic pancreatitis. Amylase 34. Lipase 104, 149 and 69. No symptoms of pancreatitis. Have pancreatic divisium and been on Omneprazole for 16 years. Do I have pancretitis.?

Hi Tommy, with amylase and lipase levels greater than 200 U/L along with pain in your abdomen, you are worried that you may have pancreatitis. This is a question that only your doctor can answer as they will have all the test results as well as your medical history.

Will you be able to call your doctor in the morning to schedule an appointment to review the test results?

I agree. Our doctor is part of a large teaching group and our doctor specializes in pancreas.. We have also been told that it can lead to pancreatitic cancer. The Mayo Clinic is I recommend by me personally.

Does he know Celiac is a cause of most doctrine problems. It damages everything in your body, not just gastrointestinal. The doctors are not taught in med school. Look it up in Mayo web.

Hi, I am still waiting for further investigation. I am planning to meet a gastro in Addis. I do not have much pain nowadays but still mild discomfort in the abdomen and sometimes pain. I am taking gastric tablets every day morning and mostly in the evening the pain returns but goes off sometimes with food and sometimes becomes aggressive with food. Could not understand what is happening, I will keep you posted.

Do check for celiac disease, an autoimmune disease. That is what caused mine and my gallbladder to turn to stone.

They can tell from your blood work. That is how they track it in the hospital.they only did an endoscopy after to check it visually. An endoscopy is nothing.

Having a CT, MRI, and EUS that show inflammation is indicative of pancreatitis. Because you have a structural issue it’s most likely that you have it though at this point it’s most likely subclinical as you are not having symptoms. Being on a pancreatitis diet might really help reverse some of the inflammation that is being seen on scans. Your enzymes look good.

I’m having symptoms of pancreatitis therefore adhering to a pancreas diet and also because my enzymes are really high though I have no inflammation showing up on scans. The diet really helps reduce inflammation and gives the pancreas a break.

When it hits you the pain is not easily tolerated. No food or drink in the hospital for 6 days. I can’t take opiates, but they had to give me morphine intravenously, it worked and did not make me go crazy and sick. Celiac is the cause. The doctors every day continued to say I was a drinker. I would like to have a glass of wine, but I also have interstitial Cystitis, so no acids, drink or food. Even asked my husband. They had no idea you could have it other than being an alcoholic.
If you can get your numbers down, avoid the full blown case.

@harper7745 Hi there. I don't usually answer questions outside of the group I mentor, but pancreatitis can be a very serious health issue; so I thought I'd step in and reply. Pancreatitis can lead to pancreatic cancer. I know that lifestyle changes can turn it around. If your current doctor cannot give you a clear diagnosis, maybe you need another opinion. I find that the better doctors are in medical teaching institutes. They tend to have more cutting edge equipment and cutting edge knowledge. For example I go only to Mayo Clinic for healthcare. There are other good options depending on where you live. The bottom line is, you HAVE to be your own best advocate. I would be interested in knowing how you are doing. I hope you will check back when you know more. Are you learning all that you can about pancreatitis?
