Osteoporosis treatment questions
I recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis I'm 66 years old. I was 39 years old and had to have a complete hysterectomy. I started taking estrogen and Premarin, I only took it for a short time. Then in my 50's I was feeling very sluggish, etc. I went and had my salava tested for my hormones at the compound pharmacy. They said I tested out to a 99 year old woman senseless to say they compounded my hormone treatment. Well, there again I stopped taking it after a few years. I feel like I should have never done that, because I feel like that is why I have bone loss.now. the doctor wants to start me on ProLiant but I am considering going back on hormone treatment, weight exercising, and vitamin d, calcium, magnesium, and k2. If anyone has had any experience in doing this please let me know. I am a very active woman and 5 months ago broke my humerus. It has really depressed me finding this out. Thank you all to any advise.

debflem149,
I hope you don't take Prolia, but have doubts that you can regain the bone loss without pharmaceutical help.
You may decide against medications, but some drugs are very effective at rebuilding bone. Forteo is my favorite because I've been taking it for a couple of years without any side effects.
All of the medications have side effects for some people and I can see why you'd want to avoid them. I've seen what fractures can do to a life and easily decided not to take the risk.
Some swear by stronium citrate a supplement available through Amazon. Many of us even on meds watch our protein intake.
Hormone replacement is decent at maintaining the bone that you have, but not so good at restoring lost bone.
There may be a medication that works well for you. You might take a look. But if you decide to avoid meds, I hope you have the best of luck.
the best discoure I'v found on strontium https://www.inspire.com/groups/bone-health-and-osteoporosis/discussion/strontium-users-discussion/reply/14768767637216873314/
That is the approach I am taking for my osteoporosis.
I don't want to take OP meds
Thank you so much for sharing this information. After taking your medication have you had a bone density test to see if the bone has grown back?
