Osteoporosis in hip put on prolia.
I was not informed anything about putting me on prolia after bone scan. They just made appointment to go get shot. Later I researched on own and saw all side effects . I am not taking again in 6 months. Saw the physician assistant and shared after reading Mayo’s book on osteoporosis I found out not safe. No answer in response. Gave her info on Bone research study for osteoporosis and said Medicare would not except it. End of conversation. What is alternative that is safe?

All medications have the possibility of side effects, as you know. Of course you may not have any. What does "safe" mean to you?
My main concern is the lack of education and choice you were given with this provider. Are you searching for someone who can work with you, explain their treatment plan ideas?
Glad you are doing your own research so that you can advocate for the kind of care you need and want?

3 ReactionsThank you.. Yes I need to have a Dr at this time. I did read prolia not for those with autoimmune diseases which I have. From what I read should not take prolia. It affects immune system. A functional Dr did tests years ago and said immune system very low. Treatment helped but cost so much I had to stop.

2 ReactionsIn Mayo Clinic on Osteoporosis a higher risk of skin infections and other infections may be increased in people with compromised immune system.
Is Medicare just standard for their protocols as bottom line? Do you have to pay for other programs available?
@aloise have not had any of those issues. And I am on Rituxan as well! I have been blessed!

1 Reaction@aloise no I am on it for ANCA Vasculitis. But it can weaken immunity.
@aloise not sure what you mean by other programs.
Does Medicare only pays for their specific approved programs or do they ever look at newer programs coming out with meds and using Dex to evaluate bone density follow up?
