Osteoporosis and SI joint pain
Hello, I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis of the spine and lesions . I am also suffering severe sacroiliac joint pain which is life changing . I am quite delicate and react badly to medication so I don’t anything !! Been advised to go on to osteoporosis medication straight away but am petrified of which one to take as my chronic pain will only worsen . Anyone out there with any guidance would be appreciated.

tiny28,
I would suggest Forteo or Tymlos, mainly because of the way they work building integrated bone. But also because they leave your system quickly, if you were to have an unexpected adverse reaction.
For my SI joint I see chiropractors with success. Be sure they know that you have osteoporosis, so that they can perform gentle adjustments. I'm sold on chiropractors because they understand body mechanics so they can advise against the types of movements that throw your SI joint off, and recommend gentle exercises to keep the joint moving correctly. I even watch the youtube videos, but have never been able to self adjust.

Hello Gently
Thank you for your reply . Are the fortes and tymlos the self injectables ? If so they are really expensive here in the UK and I only have a private doctor right now . I would have to get an nhs doctor first .
I had a gym injury years ago. I found PT helpful (it reoccurs). Do the figure four stretch! Also look online for ideas on stretches such as the door frame stretch. My PT person put my joint back in it’s correct place I the pain went WAY down
I can’t go to chiropractor as I have quite bad osteoporosis and any manipulation is out of the question . Thank you for your suggestions but I do have a physiology knowledge . I try to walk each day for about two miles and then am usually active around the house etc . I have an oura ring which helps keep an eye on my activity score . My SI joint gets very bad with nerve pain should I even try to do anything more.
I am having a meeting with an HRT specialist on Monday and will see if I am way too old for HRT for my bones .
A PT ie physical therapist
Hi tiny28,
I too have SI joint pain. I go to a pain management specialist here in the US and they give me steroid injections in both joints when the pain is really bad. Are there pain management specialists there in the UK? I also just finished almost 11 months of Tymlos. I had to stop taking it because my blood calcium increased to 10.8. I was able to get Tymlos through Radius Assist because I couldn't afford the medication. But I have to say that the pain in my spine decreased quite a bit, I think because of the Tymlos treatment. I had a fractured vertebrae at L-2. If your doctor recommends Tymlos or Forteo, see if you can qualify for patient assistance. Both drug companies offer assistance.
Hello Georgina. Thank you . Yes I have a pain specialist here and I have tried various things. I don’t respond very well to them unfortunately it just seems to flare up. It’s very debilitating isn’t it. My osteoporosis score is quite bad since 2021 after the Covid jab! I am lucky no fractures so far but on a knife edge! I am probably older than you and have exercised my whole life and eat sensible foods and vits. But can’t do what I woukd like to because of SI joints. No meds yet but am starting hrt tomorrow either small testosterone for bones and muscles. I pray it will help me. If not I will have to try something else before it’s too late. It’s nice to find someone who has the same problem . Please reply .
