Orgovyx side effect?
My husband has been on Orgovyx for 3 months.
Last night his blood pressure was 188/95 before going down to 155/90.
This morning it was 171/95 then down to 131/69.
Aren't these numbers dangerously high?
Shouldn't he stop taking this drug ?
We are seeing the Oncologist tomorrow.
Thanks for any insight

Those are very high numbers and you should definitely be talking to your doctor and a cardiologist about getting some blood pressure medicine.
Orgovyx is the only drug he is on? That is a common problem if somebody is on Zytiga (abiraterone).
They should try to get him down to the 130s on a regular basis. Even the 120s are considered high according to the American Heart association.
Do not delay, this is important.
Yes, they're on the high side. The second number, diastolic, is what I watch most closely (the systolic jumps up and down more, though his is definitely high). 90 is the top of the normal range for diastolic — at least where I live — so he's hovering between high normal and slightly elevated.
I'm not a medical professional, but it doesn't seem like a rush-to-the-ER thing (unless it's combined with other serious symptoms), more of a call-the-doctor's office-in-the-morning thing.
Best of luck!
Note too that cancer is stressful, and chronic stress can raise blood pressure. He might be able to lower it just with breathing and relaxation exercises.
Thank you for that, but blood pressure has been controlled nicely by olmesartin & diuretic. Only since the introduction of Orgovyx has this occurred. Orgovyx has certainly done its job by lowering the psa to .o6 in 3 months but at what cost ?
I take Diltiazem, metoprolol and Losartan for high blood pressure. Today my BP was 100/63. I seldom hit 120/65
If you check you will find
A systolic blood pressure of 188 mmHg is considered dangerously high and requires immediate medical attention
That’s not my advice, That’s general advice when you have that high a systolic reading.
It dropped back to 131/69. Was anything else going on? Many would love to have that number. I don't think you mentioned if he was on BP meds. Please do not stop taking the drug until you have talked to a medical professional. Orgovyx has a very short half life.
Very true, but that's a resting systolic. You'd have to make sure the person was lying still for a while, then take several readings. 180 mmHg during or right after physical activity isn't as serious. (Again, not a medical professional.)
You seem to describe a stress test that a doctor would run to see if there is a problem with the heart. Wouldn’t blood pressure that high be indicative of the fact that something is wrong and treatment is needed.
No, the opposite. You don't want stress. Unlike diastolic (which changes more gradually), systolic pressure is highly volatile and sensitive to physical activity. The guidelines are for resting BP, not BP under stress.
That's why the doctor or nurse often has you sit or even lie down for a while before taking your blood pressure, and some have machines that can keep taking it every minute or so a few times. I've seen my systolic drop 20+ mmHg after a few minutes resting and breathing slowly, while the diastolic will be much more steady.
