Off Anastrozole and Letrozole after a year
The joint problems caused by these drugs made me crippled. My knees could not support me. I stopped them two months ago and the trigger finger stopped snapping forward, but the knees are still painful. I'm in PT to make them stronger but am wondering if they will ever be ok again?
Other symptoms are slow down. Also it made osteopena change to osteoporosis, so now need treatment for that.
Anyone else "recover" from these drugs and get their joints functional again?

I, too had trigger finger in both hands after starting letrozole. The effects were gradual and began about 4 mos after starting. My first dexa prior to starting ai indicated osteopenia and 2 years into therapy progressed to osteoporosis. I also had joint/muscle pain and foot neuropathy that made standing upright from the bed or desk very hard. Due to these side effects, my dr. had me discontinue after two years into the five year treatment plan. It took a few months but no more trigger fingers or joint/athralgia! Yay! Unfortunately, I cannot take Tamoxifen so praying that I stay free of disease! I feel much better and more my age (63) now, as at the time (61,) I felt like a very old lady. I would have kept with it if not for the bone deterioration, though.
I was put on letrozole and had to stop on the fifth day because I got TN (Trigeminal Neuralgia) which felt like an ice pick had pierced my left ear. I then went on anastrozole but stopped after a few months.
Besides the TN I also got trigger fingers. With therapy (OT) my trigger fingers are much better. I permanently lost most of the hearing in my left ear and sometimes still get pains and stuffiness in it.
I am in my 80's. If you check the website https://www.ehealthme.com, which I definitely recommend;
By using innovative AI/ML algorithms and models, and public and proprietary medical big data, eHealthMe is able to study all side effects and drug efficacy of approved drugs and available supplements in millions of people. We are in effect running millions of phase IV clinical trials continuously, Our results are open to the public so everyone can check their drugs in the real world. You can check your medication against side effects. One thing that shows up in may cancer drug side effects, is that woman over 60 have much more side effects.
I still have trigger finger after three months off and a lot of other issues. Was on anastrozole for a year and then it became a nightmare. I am 77 and can't live like that anymore, so hoping evenly the symptoms will dissipate,
I’m 44 and started Letrozole 6 months ago. My joints were painful but I increased the amount of physical activity. Before I was only lifting weight , no I go to walk , ride bike and the pain has gone.

Thank you, I've been in PT and doing the bike at home. Walking is still tricky.
I met with a orthopedic surgeon and had X-rays done.
No arthritis or functional problems. Just some kind of possible cyst under the knee cap. I hope it gets better.
I think I've been off these drugs for almost a year, & my knees still hurt, but I do have mild arthritis. For some reason, one knee had a torn meniscus, for no reason that I can think of. It was repaired, but the other knee always hurt a little. I recently stepped up my walking routine; it started hurting like hell, crippling. The Ortho found nothing wrong except, again, mild arthritis. He gave me a cortizone shot, & it has helped a great deal. My knees were just fine until I started the armatose inhibitors. Thank you for posting. I was wondering if others reacted similarly.
I have baker's cysts behind my knees. One was drained, & the other is small. These can add to my pain. They were never there until I started using Letrozole and Anastorzol
Thank you for letting me know
That leg now wakes me up at night. It's always something now.
So sorry you have this too.
The only exercise I can do is the stationary bike.
I guess in the scene of things, not too bad.
Hope I never have to run anywhere :0
I took it for a year and was using a wheelchair at the airport and the pain was becoming unbearable. A nurse gave me the fyi that it was the Letrozole and I am so grateful. After 5 years off of it I have almost totally recovered. I am not sure that some of my pain is from aging and fms , but the worst effects of Letrozole was the contracting of my joints and fingers. My left hand still has some of those signs but it is not all the time. So I just what I want to tell you is yes I did recover. They gave me tamoxifen and I took it for a while but then refused it. I don’t regret it but of course my cancer has not returned. Good luck.
