Oesophagus Cancer Surgery

Posted by shannonriley1996 @shannonriley1996, Jun 2 2:12pm

My 58 year old dad who is usually fit, healthy, a non smoker and non drinker has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. We were told that the hope would be for him to have chemo then surgery however he has one lymph node under his collar bone which the hospital took a biopsy on. Subsequently we have been told that the lymph node is cancerous. The cancer has not spread to any organs other than the lymph nodes. We are now getting the option of chemo only. Just wondering if anyone has had similar diagnosis and had the option of surgery, and if so can anyone recommend any surgeons. Live in Scotland UK however happy to travel.

Hi Shannon
I'm 79 and live in Florida, USA. I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer with tumor in lower section. I went to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and they recommended 28 days of chemo and radiation with no surgery. It worked! After 3 treatments the tumor shrunk 30%. At the end the tumor was gone and the surrounding lymph nodes were back to normal. It was challenging with side affects and always feeling tired, but I'm back to normal now, and my wife and I go to the YMCA gym 5 days a week. I'd be happy to answer any questions?

@shannonriley1996, how is your father doing? Has he started chemotherapy?
