I was having pain in neck and nodule was tender to touch and pain was spreading towards jaw and ear lobe. Never had theroid. I am 43 years old. I had ultrasound scanning and result are below. Now doctor scheduled for Nuclear Medicine Scan with radioiodine. I am little worried about the result.
THYROID GLAND:
Right Lobe: 1.3 x 1.5 x 4.8 cm, volume 4.9 cc. Normal background echotexture.
Right Lobe Nodules:
1. 0.2 x 0.3 x 0.2 cm cystic, mid pole.
Left Lobe: 2.3 x 2.3 x 4.7 cm, volume 13.0 cc. Normal background echotexture.
Left Lobe Nodules:
1. 1.8 x 2.5 x 4.2 cm, solid, hypoechoic, border deforming, enlarging the left lobe.
2. 0.5 x 0.7 x 0.8 cm, solid, isoechoic/hyperechoic with hypoechoic halo, lower pole.

Isthmus: 0.3 cm AP. Normal background echotexture.
Isthmic Nodules: None.

LYMPH NODES:
No adenopathy demonstrated in the central or lateral compartment.
1. 1.8 x 2.5 x 4.2 cm intermediate suspicion border deforming nodule enlarging the left thyroid lobe for which tissue sampling is recommended.
2. 0.8 cm low suspicion nodule lower pole left thyroid lobe does not meet size threshold for recommendation of tissue sampling.

It seems like they have some suspicions that appear to point to possible thyroid issue. I tend to think that at some point they might be recommending a fine needle biopsy ( which I always thought sounded painful but wasn’t.) In my opinion, having all the tests is good so they can try and figure out what they are dealing with and IF it requires surgery….. some people qualify for radio frequency ablation for issues so it’s always good to get a better idea about what the issue is to make decisions. Good luck!

Yes, agree with koh. Do check about Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA) and understand all your options.
