Nocturia

Posted by kenhorse @kenhorse, 3 days ago

I usually get up 1 or 2 times a night to pee. Interestingly, the first time is usually after being asleep for 3 to 4 hours. The 2nd time is more like 1 to 2. During the day, I have no real issues with urgency and leak very little (maybe 3 or 4 ml). I don't leak at night but it's annoying! I don't have any liquids after 7 pm or so and I go to bed around 11:15 pm.

My urologist put me on oxybutynin once a day and that seems to help but I'm concerned about long term cognitive issues so he moved me over to tropsium as it is supposed to not cross the brain-blood barrier but I've read some things that says it does but it is less prone to.

Anyway, I'm more venting LOL. I am almost 3 years out from RARP.

Hi Ken, My husband who never woke up to pee at nights all these years is getting up at least once now after his RARP. Maybe becuase he has been asked to drink plenty of fluids. But I know people who wake up one to two times and they are mostly either diabetic or with a weak bladder. I know that sometimes it is also just a habbit.

I use Myrbetriq, it relieves urgency. Gemtesa Works similarly.

I’ve had radiation, not surgery, and am at nine months on Orgovyx. I get up to urinate 3-4 times nightly. Terazosin and Alfuzosin didn’t help, so I stopped them. Fortunately I fall back to sleep pretty quickly.

...my urologist suggested not drinking liquids for 2 hours before sleep. As brain ages we produce less antidiuretic hormone. Getting up once or twice is typical.

Hi Ken, I have found that if I sleep on my side I usually do not wake up at all during the night.
But if I turn over and sleep on my back, after a while I DO feel the need to pee. It’s not like I have a gigantic fat gut weighing down on my bladder (not yet anyway) but this happens every time.
If you can sleep on your side, maybe it will help?? Best,
Phil

I am 3 months post radiation and ADT therapy and still wake up at least 3 times every night. Best night so far has been twice but four wake ups not uncommon. My research suggests this and bouts of fatigue could persist for up to 12 months. Stay tough

@heavyphil I'm both a side and front sleeper. Believe it or not, I seem to do better sleeping on my belly than my side ( I don't have a big belly BTW).
