No response to three medicines

I have tried fosomax prolia and reclast spine results got worse -4.2 despite meds and extensive weight training. Had side effects with fosomax and prolia Dr wants me to try evenity. I don’t want to try any other drugs

Your doctor is advising you try a completely different class of medication. The three you mentioned reduce bone breakdown but do not help you build new bone.

Evenity is an anabolic drug which means it will promote the building of new bone. Many people here have had success after switching to an anabolic drug.

Unfortunately, Evenity or any of the anabolic will not have the robust results they are known for if you have already done reclast etc. There is a very good video on this that I found on this site but can't find the link. It doesn't mean you can't have improvement, but it will be much less than if an anabolic had been tried first.

I recently read a research report (one of the authors was Dr. Ben Leder) that stated that Evenity may be less impacted by previous treatment with anti-resorptives.

"... bone formation with romosozumab is predominantly modeling-based, so prior antiresorptive therapy might be expected to influence the bone-forming ability of romosozumab to a lesser degree."

There's a chart in the report showing the efficacy of Evenity after treatment with alendronate, denosumab, and without pre-treatment.

I did 5+ years of Fosamax before switching to an anabolic so I am concerned about how effective it will be. Sadly, it seems that being that long on alendronate is likely to diminish gains on teriparatide.

So the good news is that her doctor is at least recommending the one anabolic treatment that may work better.

@jmosteo
I’m wondering, has your doctor looked into what might be causing your bone loss?
Perhaps you are not absorbing the nutrients from your food, maybe celiac disease?
Or maybe there is a thyroid or parathyroid issue?
Have you had a complete blood work up?
Just a thought.
