Next steps after high OncoDX score.

Posted by glamma007 @glamma007, May 12 4:16pm

Wondering what your next steps and timetable were for anyone who had a high OncoDX score. Just received mine today, it is is 59. Assuming this means recommendation for Chemo. I'm dreading, but want to get therapy started. Stymied as I've yet to meet with a Med Onc.
Additionally, it's Stage T1, IDC with attending DCIS, Er+, PR and Her2-, NO lymph nodes but a Grade III, Ki67 30%.
So, small but aggresive.
Anyone similar DX?

Hello @glamma007 I am glad you are still making plans. I would not want to speculate on what your doctor will recommend, mostly because there are so many moving parts to the decision making process. I would want to encourage you to live it up before that appointment, just in case.
I would also urge you to be an active member of your team. Ask all the questions, even take a friend or family member with you to take notes and ask more questions.
Do you have an appointment set yet for the medical oncologist?

I believe treatment decisions are also influenced by age. If you're under 50, the thresholds for recommending chemotherapy can be different. I was 43 when diagnosed—Oncotype score of 20, ER+/PR+, HER2-, Stage 1, Grade 2. The benefit of chemotherapy in reducing the risk of recurrence was estimated to be less than 1%, so we chose not to proceed with chemo. I'm currently undergoing hormonal therapy for five years. I haven’t complete first year yet. Whatever treatment path you choose, it's important to trust in it and believe that it's working for you. Wishing you all the best on your journey!

I am 70 years old. DCIS 22 yr ago with mastectomy. Negative nodes. 1 month ago IDC in mastectomy breast Onco score not back yet. Nodes not determined yet. Chat GPT is currently free. You can login with Apple or Google so easy. They let you ask about 10 questions before it times out for some hours. Have found it very helpful. It can generate questions for MD visit. I have complicated case and it notes the difference. Have asked percentage questions. I have a saline implant and will probably get radiation only. Has given me great info I wanted in that scenario. While strongly ER + I won’t be taking blockers. The waiting I find difficult. Sending hug

Yes, appt next week. I definitely will have many questions. My husband will be along and generally most docs allow me to record them.
"live it up, jic"? Not sure what this means.

Yes. I will need to have faith we are on the right path with whichever Oncologist I choose.
I'm a bit older and it's an aggressive cancer so I'm preparing myself for Chemo. 2025 is certainly not the special year I'd hoped for!

I know it’s not easy to think this way, but in time, you might see 2025 as the year when what was already happening in your body was finally discovered — and the journey toward healing began.

Yes, that's a terrific outlook. I must embrace that way of thinking. It's just been a challenging 5 years with a diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis, totally out of the blue (never a smoker and exceptionally healthy) in 2020. Leading to isolation due to COVID as I was told a virus could do me in. Followed by a diagnosis of a systemic autoimmune disease which is
likely connected to the lung issues. On its heels, the cancer presents itself before I can receive any treatment for the autoimmune. I know many others have it far worse but I'm getting a wee bit overwhelmed. However, I am learning more about medicine than I ever imagined!

Live it up now, just in case you have to start chemo. I am still hoping that isn’t the case but I have policy of taking full advantage of every day that I feel good.🤞
