Newly Diagnosed: FIGO 2 Uterine Cancer: What does this mean?

Posted by gratefulcat @gratefulcat, Mar 4, 2023

Hi - My recent pathology report showed FIGO 2 for uterine cancer, and I am scheduled for a robotic hysterectomy next week. Does anyone know if these means the cancer has spread to other parts of the body? Has anyone had a cancer journey that started at this grade? Thanks for your help.

@angierivas1 I'm happy to know you are healing. Getting a diagnosis of cancer, the hysterectomy and all the appointments since then are so anxiety-provoking for me. I don't think the knowledge and thus the anxiety of this ever leaves you. I'm hoping it will continue to get pushed further back into your memory as time goes one.

What is the date of your follow-up next week? How are you feeling about heading into the follow-up?

You’re so kind, Helen. Thank you. It’s been challenging on our family.
I have lynch syndrome and have yearly exams and for some reason I thought I would get it as an older person.
I have same cancer as my mom but she was diagnosed in her late 60’s.
My younger sister has different cancer and no Lynch.
I’m very anxious about my upcoming appointment next Tuesday. I have many questions for my oncologist including HRT.
I’m hoping it will go well. I’m grateful to be here.

We are blessed to have our cancer diagnosed so early. I am sending you positive energy for a healthy follow-up appointment.

I remember when I was first diagnosed; I was incredibly overwhelmed by fear and anxiety. A friend recommended this book which was very helpful.

In a previous post, I mentioned that I would refuse radiation but I have since changed my mind. My physician spent a great deal of time explaining everything to me and assuring me that it would decrease my chances of recurrence with minimal risk.

I am in between being numb and crying not sure how to feel.

I went to get what I thought would be a routine pap smear today and even though I have been in menopause for
over ten years now, I guess it all was wishful thinking that my period that accured 4 months ago that has been more on then off was something really serious. I start testing tomarrow.

@val64 Oh, I didn't know that. Do you know why that is? I have a positive pelvic washing and had a long conversation with my surgeon about what that meant and why or why not it would figure into my Stage and treatment.

I don't have the NCCN guidelines with me at the moment, but I think I remember that it was optional, at least in some situations. Maybe in my case they were sure that I would be having radiation and chemo anyway, so it didn't really matter.

Thank you for responding. I too was diagnosed with endometrial cancer stage 1. And had a hysterectomy but my surgeon never suggested a pelvic washing. I’m having my 3-month follow up next week 🙏🏼
It’s been a slow and difficult healing but I’m hopeful. Cancer runs in my immediate family 😔

Hi Angierivas1 - I understand that pelvic washing is usually done during a hysterectomy when uterine cancer is diagnosed. They flush the pelvic area with saline to check the fluid for cancer cells. If it came back positive, cancer cells were found.

Hello. May I ask why did you have a positive pelvic washing? I’m just curious as this wasn’t offered to me. Thanks

The pelvic washing is not done for every hysterectomy for cancer. It was not done during mine.
