My name is Dale, I was diagnosed 6-16-16. I have ovarian cancer, peritoneal carcinomatosis and high grade carcinoma. I was a healthy 64 year old and I did not have any symptoms until the day before I was diagnosed, sore stomach then abdominal swelling and 6 pound weight gain in one day. Had to have 3 paracentesis performed in a 2 week period removing 6 liters of fluid, 2 liters then 4 liters. Once my chemo started that went away. (yesterday was my 5th treatment). I am tolerating the chemo well, no nausea. Thank God!! My plan is 9 weeks of chemo, surgery then 9 more weeks of chemo. I live in the Charlotte area so I go to Levine Cancer Institute.
Hi All-
I was just diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer-a rare tumor type MMMT. Had Radical Abdominal Hysterectomy, removed appendix, omentum, a few lymph nodes. It was considered optimal debulking. Now on my third round of Taxol/Carboplatin with just a few bumps in the road. Would love to share info with other Ovarian Cancer women. Cancer is not for the weak. Stay strong and positive.

I completed chemo in September. Had carbo, taxol and avastin. Have continued with the avastin every three weeks. I believe it is keeping me in remission, along with lots of prayer. It's been eleven months and I'm feeling great. There are some side effects which do cause more problems for some the longer your on the drug. I started with a lot of joint pain when I was on all three drugs. Have some continued discomfort but can tolerate it just fine. The one thing that it does have a big impact on is my blood pressure. I'm now on three medications for HBP because of the avastin. Your doc ahould monitor that closely. At WI in RI they will stop avastin if pressure goes over 150. Overall I think it's a great drug. @rena42 Hi Rena: Let me add my welcome to you as well. Mayo Connect is a great way to share our journeys with cancer and other chronic illnesses. I joined Mayo Connect this spring right after I was diagnosed with my third recurrence of a rare malignancy, neuroendocrine tumor. I know that a cancer diagnosis can really take the "wind out of your sails" for a while, but once you find sure footing again you will find hope. Please feel free to share as much of your story as you wish, we would love to get to know you better. In the meantime, best wishes as you continue on your healing journey.
