Neuropathy with numbness

Posted by bcool123 @bcool123, 3 days ago

This morning I was constipated, and I sat on the toilet for too long and my feet got numb. I walked up and down the hall with my walker several times and that kind of helped. Then I sat in my chair with the heating pad on for about an hour, and that helped a little my feet were numb from the balls of my feet to my toes. Pain? I guess I’ve just gotten used to it. I took gabapentin for about a year, but it didn’t do any good at all so I quit. I don’t know what to do so I’m asking you because you guys are where I get my best information. Anybody out there have any suggestions?

I get this and my teen son does too. Sitting on a hard surface, like a toilet seat, can compress blood vessels affecting circulation and also pinch/irritate nerves from hips/buttocks through thighs/hamstrings. The numbness resolves once you stop the compression and improve circulation.

Using a heating pad may increase inflammation and put pressure on blood vessels/nerves so that may add to the numbness. Something that would be cooling may be better.

Sitting too much is not good and can pinch nerves/blood vessels in knee joints, too.

Changing position and not slumping to read phone or books helps too. Bcool

Bcool, Being one of those old folks with chronic constipation I can relate to not sitting on the toilet too long. If I don't go within 5 minutes or so, I get up and ride my exercise bike for 20 minutes or so and try again. I also try not to cross my legs when sitting down as that seems to magnify the numb feelings.

Hi @bcool123

Your “feet were numb”; my right foot is numb. I hate numbness, but it’s here. Falling down, for me, adds that, too.

You use your walking by added that - a 4-leg runner or the 2 roller. You have a 16 year-young kid and has the :same” problems? You both to a doctor and will check the same thing, if possible…

Sitting down on your rear-ends might be the problem of what happens like bugs bit or older foods or inside your body problem/sickness.

Thx,

Hi Greg, thanks for your response. I’ve noticed that straightening up my posture on the toilet helps a lot. Not leaning forward to read the phone or a book. It’s boring, but keeps that numbness away. Thanks buddy.

Hi John!! Going to sit on my exercise bike?! Haven’t thought of that. Crossing my legs, I know is such a bad thing to do, but my legs just automatically do it! And I’m trying to remember not to do that so I appreciate your reply. And I hope you’re having a great day!!! Bcool difference
