Hi! I am sorry to hear this news. May I ask why you want to avoid surgery? Is this a financial matter? Because if it isn’t a financial reason and you have insurance for your child, I would not hesitate for a minute. Surgery is the number one class A weapon against tumors. If you want your child to live, get the surgery. Neuroblastomas are fast growing. I would never put my child on chemotherapy without surgery. Chemo is much harder on the body. I’ve had more than twenty surgeries in my life and I can assure you, if you are in a good hospital then surgery is your absolute best chance for your child to survive. I had a huge open surgery in 2007 and was better after a month. I am still alive. My mother had two surgeries on the pancreas. One 32 years ago. Have hope. But get one it and start researching and listening to the doctor’s advice. Don’t let your fear hurt your child. These days they can get to the pancreas with laparoscopy.
let me explain u i did surgy in other places BUT in the pancreas it will harm the spleen and chemo did not respond only a BIT The pancreatic lesion was 2.2 x 2.2 cm in Feb, in June 2.1 x 1.8 which is a small decrease SO wen i harm the spleen in a cancer patient it is a hi chance to DEI also if it relapse IN IT IS A VARY HI CHANCE IT WILL BECUSE ALOT OV TIMES STAGE 4 IS RELAPSING it is vary dangers WITH OUT A SPLEEN AND now she still have CANCER NEAR her naik THAT woes not being ABLE TO REMOVE WITH SURGEY I am doing now 3f8 with small dose of chemo and proton radishen so i don't now wot to do IF the scans will cume out not good in the pancreas
if any one news ho to treat neuroblastoma in the pancreas please let me know asap it is vary rare only about 50 patient had it in the last 50 years
So sorry but you are wrong. My spleen was removed in 2007 with a third of my pancreas. I am 18 years post op now. You can live just FINE without a spleen. Talk to a doctor at Mayo. They will second this. Get surgery if humanly poss. Tumors in the pancreas must be CUT or lasered out! They can do most with laperscopes and that type of surgery doesn’t even hurt.
@tstern7 18 years post op is a very long time! Big congrats on that! I also had 3/4 of pancreas removed with spleen and am doing just fine without the spleen. You just have to be sure to keep up with your shots (vaccines), to be sure you are protected immune-wise. My surgery was in 2022 and I was stage 2 with 1 lymph node metastasis. My mutations are KRAS12D, TP53, and ATM (VUS); a fierce combination. After a few months following surgery and then chemo I went into stage 4. What type of pancreatic cancer did you have and please share your treatment plan and mutations. Continued success on your good health.
Hi Marie! I have the MEN1 mutation. So I’ve had tumors in multiple places of my body. People who have mutations on tumor suppresser genes don’t have easy lives.
According to Dr Norton, my surgeon, my pancreatic tumors were “scary” yellow and large, He said they hadn’t determined if the cancer spread to the lymph nodes yet. Fortunately it had not spread. So I did not need treatment. He also said the cancer would come back in 10 years. He was right! I have a 7mm tumor and a 2mm tumor in the pancreas. As of last year, my tumors are stable and well differentiated. So they don’t scare me and don’t worry about it. I just stay in the moment and try to have fun.
