Nerve stimulation for urine retention

Just got back from the urologist and am thinking about trying a nerve stimulator for bladder retention...any one else have this done?
Had a severe spinal injury in 1983 and was told today that they feel the nerves are damaged and this is causing the retention.

I have the same issue due to an enlarged prostate and a Urolift that didn't work. I was told the success rate is low, although some new things are being looked at. I have not tried it...

Yes, check the success rates. I considered but with 30-40% success I did want to try it. But you might be to that point in this frustrating journey to try it. The worst is that it doesn’t work and you remove it. Nothing ventured….. I pray for your success if you try it.

I have urine retention and had the interstem device implanted in my body for 1 year with minimal results. It was removed. How I wish and pray there was something that would allow me to pee normally again.

Same experience for me. Interstim seemed to help in the beginning, but after a few months it stopped. I want it out. Waste of time and effort.

Had InterStim implanted. Waste of time and money. Stopped working after a few months and, even before that, it did not work well.

@christophers
Did you have a spinal injury or was the retention caused by something else?

@bobcat763g I had a prostate biopsy and the next day, I had bladder retention. It happened overnight. Absolutely awful.

I decided to follow this discussion about nerve stimulation to treat urine retention. So far it seems like most members that tried the InterStim device have had only minimally successful results. Many thought it was a waste of time, money and effort. I think there might be other discussions regarding urine / bladder retention problems. Perhaps there are other treatment options worth considering? Let’s not lose hope.
