Needles for Tymlos pen
My Tymlos pen came with needles for the first 30 days, I got refills for my second pen, but now I can't find the same needles (0.25mm x 5 mm or 31G x 3/16").
I have called a few drug stores and they give me a lot of other numbers 6 x 31 x, 4 x 32, 5 x 32...), but neither is 31 x 5, which is the one my pen brought.
Does anyone know if there is another one we can use?

I went through this. The specialty pharmacy claimed only the ones they sent could be used but I think they were limited by the study. My PCP prescribed BD Nano Ultrafine 4mm x 32G and said it made no difference. The Rx was sent to my local drug store.
I also could not find the original 8mm x 31 G prescribed for Tymlos. It seems only specialty pharmacies have them. The specialty pharmacy that sent me my Tymlos will only provide for one month.
Those of us who are ramping up or taking less than a full dose will need more needles! My PCP said the 4mm is fine. Here is some info on needles. I have not noticed and leakage and since I am very thin, these are actually preferable. Judging from the side effects today they are working well 🙂

The Tymlos patient website has an "Instructions for Use'" PDF at https://radiuspharm.com/wp-content/uploads/tymlos/tymlos-instructions-for-use.pdf. (You also can get to it via https://www.tymlos.com/ and click the 'Instructions for Use' link on the webpage's red-to-purple menu bar.) The PDF states, "The correct needles to use with your TYMLOS pen are 5 to 8 mm, 31-gauge needles. Compatible needles include Clickfine®, BD Ultra-Fine™, MedtFine®, Easy Comfort, Clever Choice™ Comfort EZ™, and SureComfort™. If you are not sure what type of needle to use, ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist. " (The pamphlet that comes with your Tymlos pens also may contain this same info.)
I take Forteo and also use these same type of needles. I am with an HMO and initially the pharmacy gave me 8mm x 31G generic needles. I found the generic needles challenging to use (they were difficult to screw on and off), called the Lilly Answer Center for help, and they recommended the BD needles (it also was part of Forteo's clinical protocol). As an FYI, Becton Dickinson manufactures of BD needles, in case you were wondering what "BD" means.
A person can order the BD needles (or comparable) from amazon.com or a(n online) medical supply store (e.g., https://www.amazon.com/s?k=diabetic+pen+needles+5mm to search for 5mm needles). I almost went through Amazon but went back to my pharmacy and asked for the BD needles, which they gave me without hesitation. The brand was "BD Ultra-Fine Short pen needles, 8mm x 31G". I find the BD's are superior in quality to the generic brand I had and much easier to screw on and off the pen. My pharmacy charged me the same price for the BD's and generics i.e., $3 for a 90-day supply. Nice!
As an FYI, Forteo patients have a super support resource with Forteo Connect and the Lilly Answer Center. I have called them several times since I started Forteo in May and they are great, especially the nurse educators. It looks like Radius Health (Tymlos' manufacturer) offers something similarly -- see https://www.tymlos.com/resources-support, 1-855-730-8591 (M-F, 8am-7pm ET). They are there for you.
Best wishes on your Tymlos journey!
Thank you so much! I was offered 6mm x 31G and 8 mm c 31G, but I saw that there were other needles and wasn’t sure which was better.
Yes, Tymlos has a support number.
Thanks again!
I wish you the best. 💕🌻
Be careful of needle size. The contractor for my Tymlos Rx send the wrong size needles and the medicine tube objected strenuously after 2 weeks. I was not held responsible for their mistake. Be careful!
Thank you!
