Need advice on taking necessary steps and methods before conceiving.

I am in my mid 20s and my husband and I have talked about starting a family and having children.

Are there any methods or steps to take before conceiving that will guarantee a somewhat smooth sailing conception, pregnancy, and staying healthy to be able to get through the phases?

I am looking moreso in what has worked for the women who have gone through pregnancy, advice for doctor visits, etc. I was suggested by someone to get a whole genotype test or some blood panel (with my husband) to see if there are any history of health issues between our families.
How extensive did people go into doing tests before conceiving; ensuring they're eating foods that'll ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy?
