Need a doctor that specializes and treats functional esophagitis.
I have difficulty swallowing certain types of food. I’m told it is dysphasia, functional esophagitis, but no clear cut answer. Just a word a doctor uses when they can’t see the problem. This happened out of the blue as my swallowing was fine previously. Most doctors find this problem bothersome and inconsequential. Looking for a doctor that is knowledgeable in this area and does not pass it off as untreatable. My food sometimes gets stuck in the esophagus, and I must be very careful as to not choke. Any suggestions for competent doctors?

Did they do a barium xray? They dilated my esphogus but there's no easy or quick fix to digestive problems...as far as meds when I researched, it suggested ppi but there not much help for me.

1 ReactionI have the same issue 😕. I wish you the best in finding a competent doctor that can actually give you something or tell you something you can at least eat a good meal. Best wishes. May God be your guidance in this journey if eating again.

3 ReactionsI had a esophageal manometry test that showed that have Presbyesophagus. Mine kicked in all of the sudden this year. I'm now 61. There's Levsin for spasms and amitriptyline for pain. There's Atrantil for digestion to take 1 with each meal and it's OTC. I also take Protonix @ 40 mg. I only take Levsin when spasms are really bothersome. I do not take Amitriptyline. Chew food good and sit up straight. Smaller meals is best. I was looking to have a nissen fundoplication for GERD/HH but doctor advised me against it. It would make swallowing harder.

2 Reactions@hope123, you may wish to read more about esophagitis care at Mayo Clinic here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/esophagitis/care-at-mayo-clinic/mac-20361414
How are you doing?
I’ve had esophagus dilation been to specialist had Botox injected in my esophagus nothing is helping Gi Dr is sending my records to Mayo in Rochester praying for relief it’s so scary to get food stuck in esophagus any suggestions?
My experience was with Dr Edwards in Jacksonville's Mayo. It is so frightening to have food caught YES.. In the mean time, don't eat things that could get caught. Obviously your esophagus is of little help currently. Take very small bites, chew completely. It WILL get better.
