My surgery is on Monday anxiety is high

Hi all, having my hip replacement this coming Monday 6/2. My anxiety has kicked in this week and I'm so emotional. I think my fear is the doctor injuring my knee during the procedure. I have 2 bad knees but the hip is giving me a lot of pain. I can't live with this pain anymore. I'm 60 years old and it is stopping me dead in my tracks. I'm assuming it's normal to feel this way during the final countdown. I know I made the right decision with the surgeon I chose.

Hang in there. It’s normal to feel anxiety before a major surgery. Prior to the days before my tkr , I was looking for every reason to cancel the surgery. Honor those feelings and then think of the outcome. Your quality of life will improve. You will cry and hurt, but you will be ok. I have been there. Take some deep breaths and focus your healing. Yes, you can. Be brave! Best wishes.

Can the dr give you something for the anxiety?
I have anxiety issues independent of any surgery and Xanax as needed has been a game changer for me.
Fear and anxiety pre surgery sound pretty normal to me.

I totally understand. I am headed towards tkr and I'm scared silly about it - for no rational reason, just scared. But I can't continue with this pain either, so I know, rationally, this is the right action and I just keep telling myself whatever comes up, I'll deal with it then. I'm always telling others, "Don't borrow trouble." Guess I need to listen to my own advice! Good luck and I hope it all goes well.

I do have xanax and don't take them often. Unfortunately I'm not able to take anything 7 days prior to surgery. Once I see the anesthesiologist I'll ask him for a pre cocktail LOL

"don't borrow trouble" LOVE THIS!!!!!!!! I wish you the best of luck with your knee replacement. I need two of them! Can't believe my knees are not giving me the pain this hip is giving me. Just hope after the surgery they will remain the same and not start giving me trouble. I need to dance at my daughter's wedding on 12/12!

Wow!
When do you see the anesthesiologist? That’s a long time to suffer.
Ask for something now if you can. Being anxious and fearful wears you down physically. I was told something like that prior to meniscus surgery by the dr, but when I spoke to the anesthesiologist she said I could take it.
Yes; I always asked for a pre-cocktail and they gave it, once I explained that we would all be happier if they didn’t have to pry my feet off the OR doors😂
Also, just knowing you’re going to get a cocktail may ease your mind even now.

I'm assuming I see him when I'm waiting for my surgery? No prior. I'm trying to stay as calm as I can and not think about it. I know I'll get the "sunday scaries" lol but it has to be done. I can't live like this or enjoy my daughters wedding in December. Just praying for a good outcome.

You absolutely made the right decision! Completely normal to be anxious, but once it’s over and the pain in your hip is gone, you will feel so much better!! I began my “joint replacement journey” at age 59. Im now 63, have undergone 2 shoulder replacements, a partial knee replacement and a thumb joint replacement. In the fall i will have the other thumb joint replaced. I was anxious before each, but don't regret any of the surgeries. Please update us post surgery. You got this
