My Gleason score is 7 - 3+4. How long can I live without treatment?
My Gleason score is 7 - 3+4,. How long can I live without treatment? Since I decided not to get any treatment, because of horrible side effects, I was wondering, if someone who experienced the same condition, will share his experience with me.

I had a Gleason 7(3+4) in 2009 and opted for robotic removal in 2009. Cancer Free 16 years later I am Grateful. Have GrandChildren and an amazing loving wife. Your intimacy definitely takes a hit so that should be a major consideration, that part sucks.Even though there are treatments etc,not the same. Upon removal in 2009 I had a very small area of one lobe involved nothing outside. I have another friend who was diagnosed 10 years ago and did the watchful waiting and did nothing and is still good. When you hear the word cancer people panic. Don't rush,it is not necessary unless you have high grade cancer. Prostate cancer and treatment options are much more ahead of where they were in 2009. If I was to do it all over, I would have waited it out and observed changes over time. Hope this helps somebody else out.
I was 4+3 at the e biopsy but 4+5 at surgery. I’m glad I opted for the surgery right away.
@mayoclinicadvice3 Ignore the " WATCH & WAIT ADVICE " -- This is entirely different to Active Surveillance , which I am on with Gleason 3 + 4 = 7 Cores . Refer to Dr. Patrick Walsh's book " Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer " or Dr. Scholz U Tube Videos on this matter .
Have you had regular PSA Tests ( every three monthhs ) . A Bone and CT Scan or a followup MRI ?
Have you spoken with a Radiation Oncologist? My Gleason was 3+4. Had 5 sessions of SBRT. It also depends on whether or not the cancer is contained only in the prostate. It doesn't sound like there is any rush. You may want to do genomic testing as well, if you haven't.
There's lots of info and discussion on this on the internet.
Depending on how low the % of 4, you may be invited to consider a watch and wait approach.
I came within 10% on my 4s to qualify for the wait and watch.
Internet the subject and you'll see lots of info.
At your low numbers of very very favorable intermediate pc, lots of of very good options available-including possibly just watching and waiting ad infinitum.
One thought-get the views of both a radio oncologist ( a zapper) and a urologist (a surgeon).
Good luck!!
PC discovered 01/2023 (poke and hope biopsy)- 3+3=6 (surveilance). 03/2024 - second poke and hope biopsy (result - benign), weird. PSA's kept rising into the 10's and 11's. 12/2024 - 3rd biopsy, URONAV 3D MRI guided biopsy, 4+3=7 2 cores TC1, Pirades 4 - result. PET Scan - localized. Still deciding on best treatment. So far, RP (DaVinci) has been scheduled but also looking at beam radiation. Age 68 1/2. The worry and a big one is RP after RT and then what - more sufferage! My thinking is RP then RT if needed. Thats what I have been discovering from endless reads and study. Currently on Casodex to contain flares.
"Mild side effects and completely tolerable" That may be true for some but for myself and many others the SE's are horrible. I just quit my second dance with the "Beast AKA Lupron" 2/18/2025. Again could not take the massive SE's Much worse than the first sesson in 2021, quit that one as well. Again horrific SE's. You are VERY lucky with your mild SE's, so many others really suffer, some have even committed suicide on this nasty stuff.
I would strongly urge you to get on lupron. The side effects are very mild and completely tolerable. And living without sex is 90% still good. Your cancer has very small chance of not continuing to grow. It’s what I did and I agree. I really miss sex, but that’s the only limiting factor in my life.
🤣🤣🤣
Phil,I’ll take transplant or implant beggars can’t be choosy 😂
