My first Throat scan

Posted by farmchick @farmchick, Sep 3, 2023

I'm new and been trying to learn as much as I can about thyroid. I've been having issues for a few year and my pcp didn't do anything other then the normal bloodwork for thyroid and it was all within range so nothing was ever taken any further. Well I still complained two years later with my throat bothering me and my voice sounding raspy and I asked again about getting tested so she did the basic and that was still within range but she had me get a scan on my neck and I just got results and from what I gather not all that good, but then I really don't know what I'm looking at. I've been trying to decipher the words. I'm just wondering what will be the next step. If anyone after reading my scan can shoot me in a direction to read more about this please do. I don't see much out there unless its with a nodule and my says no nodule?

FINDINGS:
Heterogenous hypoechoic thyroid gland. No dominant or suspicious nodule.
RIGHT LOBE:
4.4 x 1.5 x 1.6 cm

LEFT LOBE:
4.3 x 1.41.6 cm

ISTHMUS:
0.7 cm

My dr appt is in another 6 weeks so I'm trying to be proactive and find out as much as I can about what is listed in the finding. Thanks in advance.

Hi They are commenting about your thyroid gland but state you don’t have any nodules… that’s good! If they feel there are any concerns they will probably do a fine needle biopsy.
If you feel they are missing something, you might consider making an appointment with an endocrinologist. If your voice is raspy you should consider going to an ENT; there are A LOT of very common reasons people have raspy voices that are NOT cancer. Allergies, throat clearing, acid reflux, vocal strain, etc. Try not to think it’s the worse scenario, but definitely follow- up.
Good luck!

It was my experience that if they see something unusual on the scan they do a needle biopsy immediately and usually see results very soon. I would try to relax your thinking, think positively that there is no cancer. As the other member said, there are many things that can contribute to raspy voice. I would definitely ask for endo referral going forward. 💕
