Muscle pain around my hip replacements
I had a double hip replacement in Aug 2022 / Dec 2022. I have been VERY careful to not put any strain on the hip. I was doing a sitting dip machine and had too much weight on and I used my thighs to pull myself into position (2 rollers that hold you in place in a sitting position) to push down the weight ... I know, dumb. The muscles where the thigh rollers pressed against are inflamed (it was 3 days ago) and sore. I can put full weight on the legs, no popping, and no thigh pain ... just swelling on the outside / front part of thighs. I asked my nurse who helped me after my hips were done and he said 'the joint will not give you issues ... it'll be the surrounding ligaments, muscles, and tendons and if you have damaged the joint, you would be in terrible pain'. So I think I am ok, but I just wanted to post this. Thanks!

@jaygraff - Oops, yet another reminder that we are not bionic! My hip surgeon (5 replacements/revisions going back almost 20 years now) was pretty definite about avoiding most machines. I also have other arthritis and pain issues, and my current, amazing PT feels it is too easy to get injured trying to progress or improve using machines. He has shown me many exercises using only free weights, resistance bands & body weight. Bonus- no need to find the gym.
Hope you feel better soon.
@jaygraff
How are you treating it now? Are you icing, resting, elevating? Would bracing help?
Are you taking any anti inflammatory medications or using Voltaren gel to help alleviate the pain?
If the pain last for a while, you may need an ultrasound or MRI to check soft tissues in pelvis/hips/thighs. Steroid injections in inflamed areas may help until healed.
