MTHFR mutation and treatment resistant depression

Posted by groveben4040 @groveben4040, 2 days ago

I have double mutations of the MTHFR mutation and twenty plus year history of MDD. I’ve tried many antidepressants, ECT, and TMS. I recently got blood work done which revealed the MTHFR mutations and elevated homocysteine levels. My psych put me on Deplin. I had hopes that the mutations may have been responsible for my depression and failure to improve with meds. Unfortunately after staying on it for 3 months, it did not seem to give me any improvement. I am about out of options and I still strongly suspect the MTHFR mutations are playing some role in my depression. I decided to order EnLyte, which is like Deplin but with other ingredients. I was told by their rep that it can work, even if Deplin did not. I would greatly appreciate if anyone out there has any experience with this and could offer advice. Thank you

Hi,
It is awful what you have been through and are going through! I'm so sorry for you. I know nothing about your situation but I do know from personal experience that God will help you. Just pray and ask for his help with what you are experiencing. You don't have to go to church to find God. Although that's a nice thing to do. Just talk to God like he's your best friend and he is. If you have been praying and haven't gotten any answers yet, just keep praying and God will eventually answer your prayers! I had migraine headaches for two years that were extremely painful. It took two years of my mom and I praying continually but finally God answered our prayers and my headaches went totally away. That was 45 years ago and I haven't had a headache of any kind since.

I will pray for you also. I wish you the best.

I tried every anti-depressant available and was developing suicidal ideation, increased irritability and it had no effect on my depression. I have found some solace in medicinal cannabis but only THC/CBD which means I only get relief at night after I have done all my driving. It only helps it doesn't change the earth, it just gives my mind a rest and heightens my mood when taking it. To counter fogginess in the morning I take pure CBD. Anti-depressants are a cycle. You are given one it takes 2-3 weeks to start working or not and up to 8 weeks to wean off before you have to start another one and do the same and feel the same.

Do you mind sharing which mutations you have with MTHFR?
I also was recently diagnosed with C677T and A1298C with elevated homocysteine levels and low RDW.
It hasn't affected my mood but has caused significant metabolic disorders.
Surprisingly, it wasn't until my last Covid infection (long COVID patient), that it was an issue.
I have been on B12 2000mic injections daily for 3 years with my count staying between 160-180, my B3 (Niacin) has been undetectable for 3 years while taking oral supplements.
I have multiple autoimmune diseases, severe cognitive impairment and yet here I am praying for some type of answer.
Do you ever feel like physicians look at your chart and say too complicated and send you to another specialist?
That's been my life since 3-22, after my last Covid infection 😩
