Mouth Sores from chemo: When do they go away?
Any suggestions for mouth sores? Mine started a few days after my first infusion of Taxotere and Cyclophosphamide. Am using Magic Mouthwash consisting of lidocaine, maalox and benadryl with baking soda, salt and water rinse in between. Day 4 and no relief. For those of you who've had them, do they not go away until all infusions are complete? If so, I don't think I can handle it 🙁

Did you try these mouth rinses?
Colgate Peroxyl Antiseptic Mouthwash and Mouth Sore Rinse, 1.5% Hydrogen Peroxide, Mild Mint - 500ml, 16.9 Fluid Ounces
Biotène Oral Rinse Mouthwash for Dry Mouth, Breath Freshener and Dry Mouth Treatment, Fresh Mint - 33.8 FL oz
Biotene worked for me during chemo-
My infusion nurse suggested L Glutamine capsules (500 mg) and these have worked fantastically. I still get them long after chemo, but when I feel them coming I take the L Glutamine and it prevents them. They are also available in powder form to mix with water. Good luck. Totally worked for me.
I have seen other discussions on this forum that recommended "Healios" its a mouth rinse you buy on Amazon. Some users swear by it. I have not tried it. But if you use the search at the top you can see what others have said about it.
I used Prevention Mouth Rinse when I got the sores. Seemed like it helped to get rid of the sores quick. I didn't get them after every treatment but when you do, is not a good feeling. Best to all.
Thanks for replying. I will have my husband get me some local honey and give it a try.

If I remember correctly, I just ate about a teaspoon a couple times a day. Also applied a bit to my lips. People say local honey is best for your immune system, but I don’t know how much that would matter in this case.
I sincerely hope this works for you.

So how do you administer the honey. I’m willing to try it. My mouth and throat are so so sore. Appreciate any input you can give me.
My integrative medicine doctor recommended honey in addition to the baking soda/salt rinse and I avoided mouth sores. Not sure if that’s what helped, but it’s worth a try.
Best wishes,
Cindy
Magic Mouthwash is great. Also have your doctor look at your mouth. It is possible there is yeast. My husband had yeast and sores. So he had the magic mouthwash and liquid nystatin.
How were you able to eat?
My husband uses the numbing liquid and doesn’t help much. He’s having a hard time eating, his throat is bad from radiation from tonsil cancer.
