I have read to not take metformin past 80. Is this true?

Hello @jfperrone. If you don't mind sharing a bit more, were you prescribed metformin for a particular diagnosis? Here is some information that may help shed some more light on using the medication past the age 80, https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/metformin-oral-route/before-using/drg-20067074.

"Although appropriate studies on the relationship of age to the effects of metformin have not been performed in the geriatric population, geriatric-specific problems are not expected to limit the usefulness of metformin in the elderly. However, elderly patients are more likely to have age-related kidney problems, which may require caution in patients receiving metformin. This medicine is not recommended in patients 80 years of age and older who have kidney problems."

Read the paper that comes with Metformin and you will find that it can cause
lactic acidosis, ( a nurse will call it anaphylactic shock ) ,same difference.
I was on it for a few years then it was causing nausea, vomiting, run to bathroom which I told two different doctors what was going on. They knew nothing about it, Finally the shock hit me and my wife rushed me to the emergency room and they did not know exactly what the trouble was,. Long story short I woke up with two tubes down my throat because I passed out while the doctor was trying to find out the trouble. 3 days and nights in the hospital because a doctor will give you something he knows nothing about.
My estimation would be go another route if you need diabetic meds.
