Microscopic Colitis
To the person who posted that charcoal pills stopped diarrhea, a thousand thanks.
I was diagnosed with microscopic colitis. I took Budesonide for a little over two months, and it was wonderful. After about a month after stopping, I started getting diarrhea and cramping again. After two months the diarrhea was every day. The Imodium never helped. After seeing the post, I added two charcoal pills before meals and no more diarrhea. Thanks for posting.

Hi Sarapa,
Once I was prescribed Budenoside 3 mg, I had a rapid (3 days) good response and saw no reason to quit. I have been on it over a year, and don't plan to stop. Thank you.

Hi Mollygirl,
I am so sorry that Budesonide has lost its effectiveness for you. I was given a 3 mg Rx as soon as my colonoscopy diagnosis was given. I was told I could take more than one a day if needed but was never told to stop taking it completely - so I never did. It has been 1 and 1/2 years since my Dx and I am going well with 3 mg daily. I eat carefully, like roast chicken, lots of fish and seafood, soft vegetables like mashed taters, cooked carrots sweet potatoes in winter. I can have bread for a sandwich, cheese is OK. What do you eat?

Good morning, Margot! Thanks for the food list. It's helpful to see what others can tolerate.
My diet has been more on the carnavore side because vegetables and fruit seem to tear me up. I miss my salads!
If I can manage to get to the point of remission, my gastro wants me to stay on 3 mg budesonide per day. The good news is that after all these months, I'm starting to have some good days. There is hope! (But last night I had a setback, so we'll see where it goes)
My past is hardly what you've gone through; but I just started Remicade Infusion. I'd love to hear from anyone who has any experience with it.
To @lss111, maybe ask your Gastro Doc about it? You're in my thoughts.
I did. However, as I stayed on it for years, we accidentally found it was damaging my adrenal glands. So, cannot take it again . Just had 1st Remicade Infusion. You can discuss with your providers
Hi, Margot!
I started out at 9 mg a day and eventually landed at 3 mg daily as a maintenance dose. I’ve never kayaked but it looks like fun. I’m convinced that staying active as much as one can helps tremendously with health issues!
Thank you!!

Do you take Budesonide all the time or when you have a flare up? I have had MC since 2022. I was only initially prescribed Budesonide and weaned and my GI only recommends Budesonide when I have a flare up, I was so thankful to have the Budesonide but because it is a steroid I would not want to take it all the time and my GI doesn’t recommend that Budesonide be taken all the time. Pepto Bismol or Imodium are his recommendations unless they don’t work….. then he says to take Budesonide as directed 3 each morning and wean as you stop having diarrhea. It’s been 3 years and I can’t gain any weight. I lost 50 pounds in 7 months. I eat The Microscopic Colitis foods recommended by Wayne Perskys research and that has improved my MC flare ups….. it is a huge change but I am better ….I just can’t gain weight….plus I am more often than not tired. It was a while before I found the Microscopic Colitis Foundation/ Wayne Persky. I didn’t want to eat as he says we MC’ers should and I didnt. I started having horrible reflux in 2024. Upper endoscopy was only a small hiatal hernia. The reflux turned to vomiting. I then knew I had to eat like Wayne Persky says. The vomiting has almost stopped!! I do fear the feeling of a burp fearing it will be vomit. 4 months now only 3 vomits. I had become daily and I lost more weight. I an skin & bones….age 66.

The Microscopic Colitis Foundation is the BEST help for us with MC until GIs can find more helpful knowledge from a medical perspective…….
It is tough…… we need to support each other!!!! No others really understand!!!!
Hi Deb
Kayaking is lots of fun as long as you don't have diarrhea - then it is not fun at all!
