Metastatic PC: Cat Scan and Bone Scan during/after treatment.

Posted by thierryb1959 @thierryb1959, Sep 14 9:08am

I am Metastatic PC , Gleason 9(5+4).Cancer moved to the bones/ spine and lymph nodes.I am under a triplet thearapy : Eligard injection every 13 weeks, Daily 2 takes of Nubeqa tablets and 6 rounds (every 3 weeks) of Chemo Docetaxel. I am mid way through chemo(got 3 already). The blood tests results are good. The oncologist does not believe I need a cat scan and a bone scan as a result of the reading of the tests. Should I insist once the chemo is finished in mid
November, even if the blood test results are encouraging, that I should have access to the Cat Scan and bone scan?
Thank you

You want a PSMA Pet scan more than a CAT scan and a bone scan. That has replaced those two tests.

If your PSA is below .2 then it may be difficult to see metastasis on the pet scan, but if you have a lot of them, they will show up anyway.

Usually, the drugs will shrink your metastasis considerably and stop them from growing You do have very aggressive PC so make sure to get monthly PSA tests.

Are you going to a Mayo Clinic? With the Advance case that you have, you should be seeing a Genito urinary oncologist. Those are the only ones that specialize in prostate cancer. While Medical oncologist can be quite helpful they do not have the time to keep up with all the latest technology for use with prostate cancer. A place like the Mayo clinic will have multiple doctors reviewing your treatment to make sure you get the best.

When I finished my chemo treatment, my wife asked about testing, of course they said okay and I got a MRI testing done. Seems like a good idea, to see if treatment is working and it's not spreading.
