I have terrible memory loss at 18 I struggle to remember past events recent events and conversations this all started after terrible headaches in my forehead nausea and fatigue with aches in bones I went to my doctor ordered a mri they said no abnormalities then I thought it’d get better it didn’t I went to a neurologist and they said that it could be fnd or severe anxiety or depression I told her I didn’t have this before but she saw how desperate I was and she brushed me off then I went to a university hospital and they said that my mri was normal again and I don’t know what’s wrong anymore i seriously have memory loss I don’t remember past or recent events I have agitation anxiety and depression unexplained but they can’t tell me why I’m only 18 and I feel like I’m in a dead end I’m concerned about autoimmune causes but no one will listen to me I was considering John Hopkins in Baltimore since I’m kinda close and go to the er but I’m not sure this all started in November I’ve also have instances where I’ve struggled to speak and I have extreme fatigue and restlessness and muscle spams sometimes any recommendations of what to do this kinda just happened out of nowhere no low vitamin b12 normal thyroid no vitamin issues this has been so hard on me because I have no idea what’s happening it feels like my life has been taken away from me 🙁

Hi Jason, I'm really sorry to hear what you are going through and at such a young age. I'm at the other end of the spectrum age wise, but I have several of the symptoms you have described, although I don't have the memory issues. Mine happened overnight after I took one Sertraline capsule. Sertraline is an SSRI drug quite often prescribed for depression. I'm mentioning this, because perhaps there was a similar trigger in your case.

Did you have contrast dye either by IV or injection halfway thru your MRI?

@jasonruiz731 Ugh - your struggles sound so horrible! A lot of my struggles started at 19 (I'm much older now), so just know that health struggles are indiscriminate of age. I'm so sorry you're dealing with so much ... my humble opinion - a second (and even a 3rd, if need be) neurologist opinion is necessary. Not saying what you're describing is out of another Dr's bounds, but it really sounds more neurologic than anything else - I'm not an MD, so please make sure to seek a Dr rather than take my word for anything. Standing back, that's what I'm observing. Four questions for you - 1) Were you ever in a car accident? (bc of memory loss) 2) Did they ever do a CT scan? (diff scans show diff things) 3) Have they ever considered a meningioma? (a friend of mine had this) 4) Sorry, this one might be personal - merely for your own personal reflection - did you ever experience any sort of trauma that could have formed memory blocks? (don't answer this one here) ... things to think about. Also, I'd say you can't lose anything by pursuing research hospitals for their opinion. Ugh. Sure hope someone can figure this out soon and you can receive relief. Hang in there! And, you've come to the right place for lots of support and great experiences / perspectives - I applaud you for that; it helps the rest of us, too.

I have had 2 nuerologist opinion they say that there’s nothing wrong with my scans at all I have had no seizures or strokes have done CT’s and mris they say it shows no abnormalities
The headaches have mostly stopped being severe but I’m left with extreme fatigue they think it’s functional neurologic disorder but I don’t know I’m running out of options and ideas I’ve never been in a car accident no they haven’t considered a menginnoma they say it comes back normal so they don’t have suspicion of it I don’t have any trauma this all just sort of happened out of nowhere I don’t know what to do anymore I’m so young but dealing with so much because of my age they automatically think it’s a psychiatric issue I live in northern if you have any idea or recommendation of where or what to do I have no idea of how to go to a research hospital or have them evaluate me I’ve been to the university of George Town they found nothing wrong so I don’t know anymore 🙁

@jasonruiz731 Where in the north are you, may I ask? I would recommend Mayo in Rochester if you're close to that. Or, there's one in Florida, which I went to years ago. If you were near me (SC), I would suggest MUSC and/or Duke in NC. Those are two top rated hospitals that offer so much. Johns Hopkins, like you mentioned, might also be a good choice. You said your Dr's think it could be Functional Neurological Disorder - but, have they pursued any path ahead or course of treatment (besides psychiatric help)? Oftentimes, sadly, we have to be our own advocates and keep pushing for answers and/or better quality of life when we know there is something wrong inside our body. You alone know how you feel and that it's giving you red flags, and moreso that you're not willing to live in that condition. It's going to take some fight, but it'll be worth it once things start to improve and can be managed. Right now, though, you have no answers. If where you are is not giving them to you, then you might need to look outside of your borders. One of the moderators here - Colleen, maybe? - just posted a resource about Mayo program, but I'll have to see if I can find it and repost for you. Have you seen your primary Dr and asked his/her opinion? Might need to start at ground zero and see if they could make an additional referral somewhere else. Otherwise, you are an adult and you have the right to make your own medical choices. This might sound a little harsh - not trying to be - but, you need to somewhat tune out your parents' voices in regards to this if they're not being helpful. Utilize them, though, yes!! Talk to them, share your struggles if you're willing and explain that you're not OK and need to find out what's going on FOR YOU. It's your life, not theirs. I'm dealing with a plateful myself, and I've had to do this on my own, so I know the struggles. I've had to jump from one Dr to the next and finally I get somewhere and then something new gets thrown on top. It's ever changing, but all good. Have you considered (or maybe you already have) reading medical journals? I've found tons of helpful information there because they document cases that many people don't hear about with "strange symptoms" and rare disorders (not saying yours is). Just a thought. I'm going to be thinking about this and I'll see what I can dig up. In the meantime, hold your head high and don't give up! You are supported here.
