Mayo Arizona - Cactus Garden

Posted by amylward @amylward, Dec 25, 2024

During my visit, I became quite enamored with the Cactus Garden. Is there a Friends of the Cactus Garden or a way to donate to the Garden's support?

@amylward
Have not been fortunate to see garden, but I can give a contact point to ask about.
Mayo Concierge Services should be able to help you find who to contact or how to donate. to the garden.
• By phone 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time, Monday-Friday: 507-538-8438
• Email: concierge@mayo.edu

Thank you for thinking about supporting something that others can enjoy.

@amylward I live in Phoenix. It’s so nice to hear that someone appreciates our vegetation! I don’t remember the type of cacti that’s at Mayo.
Many people who come here say this desert looks like a dry wasteland! The area around the Phoenix Campus is being built up, and that makes me sad.

I live in Phoenix also, and missed the cactus at my home.

I cannot even begin to tell you what the Cactus Garden did for my weary soul during my surgery recovery. I loved the quiet areas to sit, and especially the fountain area.

Hello @amylward. I saw your question here and also got your email that was sent to Concierge Services. I have a message out to some staff at the AZ campus. I hope to hear back from them so I can share the information with you.

Where is the Cactus Garden located please.

The Cactus Garden is between the Phoenix hospital building and the Specialty Building. It's just a special little gem of a park that you could walk by and not notice... but once you find the entry, you might have a wonderful a ha moment of discovery.

Hello @amylward. I did get some information back about the Cactus Garden, the following is part of the replay.

"We do not have a “Friends of the Cactus Garden” group, but I will pass this along to Development..."

IF you have any question, you can contact the Development Department by call, 855-852-8129 or you can email them at, development@mayo.edu. They would be able to assist you on making a donation to the garden, if you would want to do that.

I just received a little more information on the garden at the Arizona campus.

- The “cactus garden” is a benefactor named Garden, called the Coonly Garden, that includes cactus identifiers. This garden is located directly outside the Hospital. (see below for a map).

o It is interesting to note is that there is a garden for each of the three buildings on the Phoenix campus
- We do not have a “Friends of the Cactus Garden” group here
- The bird nest in the garden was built by a Cactus Wren.

Thank you so much! I can't wait to visit the Cactus Garden at my follow-up appointments.
