Lupron Treatment Duration: How long were you on it?
I have been diagnosed with Grade 3 prostate cancer with a 4 + 3 Gleason score of 7. This after having 2 PSA scores last year between 4 and 7. The cancer has not spread to the bones. I have received two Lupron injections 3 months apart and will complete 28 radiation treatments in the next couple of days. No surgery. I have tolerated the Lupron shots well with few but manageable side effects. I have an appointment to receive a third Lupron shot next month. My first PSA test after completing radiation won't be scheduled for 3 months. From researching Lupron, it appears that this is used for advanced stages of prostate cancer. From what I was led to believe, I was not advanced. My question: How long and how many Lupron shots might I need to go through? I will have this discussion with my urologist hopefully before proceeding with the next shot. Thanks for any information provided by the group.

In May 2012, I had my first injection of Lupron with the biggest needle I have ever seen in my life. Today at my age of 70 I am still having Lupron injections. My PSA was 4.87 when diagnosed and my scores were all above 10. Cancer has never been in remission and only moderately controlled. I keep seeking
I am not sure if I mentioned he was so dehydrated that the VA sent it to the hospital for fluids. He ended up having blood clots in both of his lungs. He had been off of Abi/predisone For a few days, but now it’s been three weeks. After four days in the hospital knee swelled up And they took two vials of fluid off of it three days later he had surgery to clean it out. I’m just wondering if it’s antibiotics that is making him so fatigued.
No his quality of life isn’t great when on it. Sees his oncologist next week. He is so weak and exhausted
Gleason 4+3 worse than 3+4. ADT helps shrink prostate before radiation.
I've been fortunate enough to not be severely affected by the Abiraterone, Prednisone and lupron. It's incredibly important to stay well hydrated in general to help mitigate other side effects.
Welcome, @pennyoverhill. Several members have talked about treatment with Abiraterone with prednisone like @mikesuess @ncoic @ringmastr1 @lag @lmacfive @joecontheroad.
How is your husband doing? Did he resume treatment?
Is anyone in the group on ABI/Predisone? My husband was diagnosed wht Castrate-resistant Metastic Prostate Cancer one year ago in June and the cancer had come back in his pelvic area. He than had 36 appointments of radiation, followed by Eligard-Lupolide shots every 6 months along with 4 tablets of the ABI-Predisone. Very tired and not much of an appetite or drinking fluids, and now has been off of it for two weeks. I was told to bring him to emergency room for fluids, and after much testing they found out he had blood clots in both lungs. He is now home after 10 days in hospital and does not want to go back on ABI/Predisone.
An excellent way to Reply, Kevin: not simply individual opinion, but published material.
Sure hope you're around for questions I might post!
I was Gleason 9 and I did 3 years of Lupron (after 6 weeks of radiation). It wasn't fun, but it wasn't horrible, either. Maybe I was lucky.
Thanks much for the note and data. Had extensive radiation and am now on Hormone therapy. Pet scan showed no cancer beyong the Prostate and the Radiologist still traeted the lymph nodes with radiation just in case. I want to stop at 18 months with Hormone but getting some pressure from urologists to continue furthur.
