Oh @ashlea, this is such a hard time for your family. My heart goes out to you.
There are many types of lung cancer, and they can each respond to treatments differently. We have many treatments available now. That's a good thing and has directly led to more success in treating lung cancer.
The biopsy is a great first step in determining the treatment that has the best chance to be effective for him. Don't get too hung up on prognosis at this early stage and avoid Google. Lung cancer treatments are changing so fast, the statistics that you see and hear are all lagging, they are outdated.
There are many stage IV patients here that are living well beyond the statistics. I just celebrated 5 years from my initial diagnosis.
Take a deep breath, the diagnosis process can take some time. There will likely be more appointments and tests to come. Did he tolerate the biopsy well? Do you live nearby him?
