Lumbar fusion

Posted by meadco @meadco, Sep 21 1:53pm

I had a lamenectomy in June to treat discitis. After 13 weeks of antibiotics recent mri shows my disc is destroyed and my vertebrae are partially fused. I am in extreme pain that has worsened. My surgeon wants to wait 2 more months to revaluate. I don't know if I should seek a 2nd opinion or not. I don't want to suffer more irreversible damage/disability.

If your pain is getting worse not better and your meds don't include pain pills, I would seek a second opinion.

It's always a good idea to get a second opinion if you have any doubts regarding a medical practitioner's diagnosis. I have been down that road, too. In one instance I had to get a fourth opinion that ultimately helped my situation. I wish you well on your journey.

Get a second opinion. There's no reason you should have to wait. I hope all goes well.
Prayers for you

I spoke to a spine surgeon yesterday and he agreed with my Dr. He said that my vertebrae are fusing on their own and fusion surgery isn't necessary. So I will wait two more months and im the meantime I will find a pain management team.
