Looking for others who have had Discitis and lamenectomy
Hi my name is Barb. I found this forum and started reading what others had shared. Everyone is so supportive of each other so I wanted to join. In June I had to go to the ER with terrible back pain. An MRI showed I had a bad infection on my lumbar L5. After 5 days of IV antibiotics and no progress I had a lamenectomy. 13 weeks of IV and oral antibiotics later the infection was better. I thought when that was resolved I would recover quickly. The pain is still awful and there is nothing else they can do. I'm 67 and housebound, the doc says he is sorry this happened to me, not very
reassuring! It does make me feel a little better to put it down on 'paper'. It's hard for family to understand when you don't start feeling better. Is there anyone here who has been thru this that could shed some light on the longterm outcome. Thanks for listening.

Barb, I had a semi hemi-lamenectomy in 1990. I blew out an L5 disc. Ouch! I still have some foot drop and the pain was slow to subside. I bought a tilt table not long after the surgery and hang at 45* most nights for about ten to twenty minutes. This has helped a lot. Advil or Ibuprofen are big helps as well. I don’t have pain anymore, but still hang up at night. My best for your quick recovery.

Thank you for sharing your experience, the tilt table sounds interesting. I haven't had that suggested before. I especially appreciate you taking the time to respond. This has been crazy difficult and it's nice to get encouragement from others.

1 Reaction@meadco You don’t have to hang upside down. A slight incline to get some traction and pull vertabrae a little bit apart and let the discs refill with fluid. If you get one, get a model with a foot release that is easy to reach. Have someone with you when you do it. Some chiropractors have these. There are also flat tables for traction. Several options…
