Long-acting cortisone knee injections side effects

Posted by gem13 @gem13, Nov 28, 2023

Good morning. I had bilateral knee injections with Zilretta two weeks ago. The right knee responded well, and the left knee within 24 hours was painful and now is extremely painful, much worse than before the injection. Has anyone here had a bad outcome with this medicine? I see my doctor Friday, and so far she has prescribed Mobic, but the pain is bad.

My husband has had knee injections, but not with this medicine. He has had 2 injections with Kenalog and the first time he had the shot it was 13 months ago. He can go when he needs it, unlike cortisone. Maybe ask you doctor for Kenalog.

Thank you for your reply. I see the doctor on Friday. I have had the shorting-acting one in the past. It was great and gave me about 30 days’ of relief. This one made me so much worse. I hope the dr has some answers.

I’m not sure that mine was called that. I had in my heels- it was a bio-genie by the name of Zofin.
Cost me an arm and a leg -$7000.00 for 2 shots@ not covered by insurance.

Bottom line I was in so much pain- I had to wear Lidocaine patches - 10% have to get from a Dr. Helped to ease the pain but eventually - went back to have cortisone shots. Got me out of pain. No more Bio-genetics for me.
Good luck
