Light Headedness and Dizziness related to foot neuropathy

Posted by bamba @bamba, May 11 9:48am

I was diagnosed with neuropathy in my feet 3 years ago. I do not have diabetes. I have some burning and mild occasional pain in my feet. I do have ongoing and worsening dizziness especially when moving around or standing in one place. My neurologist says this is from my neuropathy. I don’t know anyone else with neuropathy who has this problem. I’ve had a few different physical therapy treatments that haven’t helped. Anyone else experience this?

Welcome @bamba, Light headedness and dizziness can be symptoms for some types of neuropathy but they can also be symptoms of medications used to treat neuropathy from what I've read.

"Signs and symptoms of autonomic neuropathy depend on which nerves are damaged. They might include: Dizziness and fainting when standing, caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure."
--- Autonomic neuropathy - Symptoms & causes - Mayo Clinic
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/autonomic-neuropathy/symptoms-causes/syc-20369829

There are some discussions available where others have shared their experience with similar symptoms. Here is a link to the list of discussion and comments - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/?search=neuropathy+%2Blightheaded+%2Bdizziness

Did your neurologist give you a specific diagnosis for the type of neuropathy?

Thank you for such a quick response. I do not have autonomic neuropathy. No heart problems. Also recently had cat scan and mri of brain. I just wish my doctors would come up with a treatment that would give me some relief and improve the quality of my life. I keep researching, hoping to find solutions. Very frustrated and discouraged but not giving up. Thanks for your input.

Try a motion sickness daily pill it works for me. Do it every morning:

I find this interesting as I also have had a lot of lightheadedness. I did not associate this with my foot neuropathy until now though. Also. I managed, after 3 years of dodging it, to get Covid last year and have also noticed an increase in my neuropathy and the lightheaded feelings since. Maybe a coincidence, but I don't think so.

I do, every day. Could not fathom why. Nice to have this new information. Thank you!

Sorry, I know how much discomfort it causes me but good to know I’m not the only one. I have a few friends with foot neuropathy and they don’t have any problems with dizziness but they do have more pain than I do.
