Lifting weights while on ADT: hitting a wall?

Posted by bluegill @bluegill, Jan 28 5:30pm

I'm 5 weeks into it (Eligard). This is my second rodeo (the first time I was on it for 3 years).

I've been doing intense weight lifting 3 days a week for several months now, and I thought maybe this would help me keep my energy up and keep the side efffects away. But today I've really noticed they're back.

Crap.

I follow a WFPB diet so I have no concerns with diet.

Not necessarily true; many plants cause gas.

My PSA in 3 years went from undetectable to .05, then .06,then undetectable , then .06, then .12.
At that point , figured there was cancer there , so I wanted to get started on radiation, but my team wouldn't do it until it reached .2. Then they could do a PSMA PET. Apparently below .2, the PSMA-PEt may not pick up any cancer. Alos, I think there is an issue with Medicare covering it.
Meanwhile I had a CT scan for another reason and they detected a suspicious spot on my rib.
That triggered a PSMA pet which showed no cancer. Then I had a PSA which jumped to .25. And that got me do Dr . Haseltine, and I started Orgovyx 3 weeks. Radiation starts 5/21.

The only advice I would offer is to start the radiation diet now - about a month before treatment. See how your body reacts to it and take steps necessary to eliminate gas from your bowel, yet still have a bowel movement every day.
Everyone responds differently and in my case it was the most challenging aspect of the whole protocol.
Your RO team should have given you info on this by now. If you have questions just go to the search icon at the top of the page; you know how to do the rest!

....and then you switched over to Sloan?

No, then I switched urologists and found one closer to home on Long Island. He is affiliated with NYU and has been doing cystoscopes (bladder cancer) and PSA testing.
When the PSA hit .18 he referred me to a radiologist he works with but I decided on Sloan since they have an excellent reputation and it was no time to fool around.
However, I still see my NYU urologist; he’s operated on my bladder twice already and we’ve developed a urethral connection😉

So now can they target radiation to those areas?

I have an appointment with the radiation oncologist next week.

Had a psma petscan and the lymph nodes showed up. The oncologist showed me the images both from top down and back forward. Very interesting except for the fact he was showing me me.

Not a Doctor but surprised if cancer has spread to lymph nodes, was surgery and or radiation on the table or did your past history effect the path ?
